She don't do major credit cards, I doubt she does receipts

I had a very random evening. I don't really like that word because of it's over use, but that's the best way to describe my night. I went out with Alicia and her boyfriend, and we met up with his roommate and his friend. Started at Split crow, moved on to Maxwell's, and finished at Cheers/Dome. Over the course of the night, I got a free drink and a free cab ride home. This is due to the fact that Shera eventually met up with us. I always feel awkward in these situations, getting free stuff, but Shera seems to know how to handle it. I had a really good time though, all in all. Successful evening.

Gotcha

(205): Why are my keys in the refrigerator?
(1-205): You said "This is gonna really confuse me tomorrow." Apparently drunk you plays pranks on hungover you.
(205): This explains so much.

I know you can save me

I went to dinner with a few friends from my summer job tonight, Holly and Mandy. I spent 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with them, and haven't seen much of either since September. It was nice to see both and catch up. We went to Estia and shared the greek nachos, which I highly recommend. I get them every time.

After supper I met up with Carlye and we went to see When In Rome, the Kristen Bell movie. In all honesty, we chose it because it seemed like a stupid chick flick. In truth, it was, but it was a lot better than expected. There were a lot of hilarious parts. And, my personal fave, lots of awkward parts. Plus, my great love of Kristen Bell didn't hurt the movie's chances either.

May attend girls' night tomorrow and see The Lovely Bones. Not sure if I want to ruin my memories of the book by seeing it though. Other option is spending the night with Ange and Robin and watching a comedy. Leaning toward the latter.

Come on baby girl

Apparently this song has become popular, although I had never heard of it until last night. Nice tune though: Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons.

I am human and I need to be loved

I love Thursdays because based on my class schedule, they are exactly like most people's Fridays. I'm just waiting to attend my last class of the day, Interdisciplinary Pain seminar, and it's the weekend for me. I think we're going to get dressed up tonight and head to Pacifico.

Wrote my Human Sexuality midterm today. It went really well. Properly labeled the clitoris, labia minora, urethra, and mons pubis. Brilliant.

On a bit of a Smiths kick at the moment. There is a light that never goes out.

I’ll be your DNA helicase and help unzip your jeans

Submitted one of my raps to the school newspaper for the sex(y) issue. Pays to know the editor I suppose.

Picked up my graduation ring today. It's even better than I expected.

Was offered a great job for the summer that will help me save money for the graduate program, should I be accepted.

Heading to music trivia tonight at the Economy Shoe Shop with Ange and Carlye.

Nothing compares

Dalhousie posted its exam schedule for April today. I only have one exam, Social Psychology, on April 19th. Doesn't get much better than that.

Drop it like it's hot

Just finished writing/editing my cute lil heartwarming essay on why I want to take physiotherapy, and more specifically, why at Dalhousie. Took it pretty seriously - even sent it to my mom to edit.

Mom's coming up tomorrow. She brings with her gifts (bottled water, my scholarship cheque, and printer ink). She's going to take me and the sis out for supper - the Edwards women bonding.

Nothing much else to say. Spoke to Morgan on Skype this evening - very exciting. Moving on up in the world of technology.

Sing, sing a song

I finally broke down and downloaded Skype. I'm not sure why I didn't download it earlier. But, if you want to chat and see my pretty face, I can be contacted as lm_edwards.

Throw your hands up to the sky

Skratch was as good as always. Paragon (formerly the Marquee) was a great venue for it, although nothing will ever beat Baba's in my opinion. Although, Skratch was considerably cheaper at Paragon (might have something to do with their 500 person capacity) ringing in at just $6.00. I danced up a storm from the moment Skratch took the stage (around 11:45 PM) til the lights came on (never a pretty sight at a bar) at 2 AM.

Walked home from the bar after the show, which is quite a long walk if you are familiar with the city at all. It was cold, but nothing I couldn't handle. Not sure why I didn't get a cab though, brr.

Tomorrow is school work day, and Carlye and Alicia get back from their respective weekend trips (St. John and Antigonish). Looking forward to Carlye's return so I can finally watch the finale of Jersey Shore. I promised I woudln't watch it without her, but damn I am curious to see how Ronnie going to jail plays out.

You only meant well? Well of course you did.

Have been spending a lot of time with Islanders this semester - it's nice. Went to Angela's last night and 75% of us were from PEI. Headed down to the Paragon but it was so busy we decided on Maxwell's instead. Beers and discussions of Dance Mixes '92 through '95 ensued. Good times had by all.

Hitting up Paragon for real tonight with the usual PEI crowd for Skratch Bastid. Looking forward to it.

But you're like pretty funny, weblog

Stumbled across this webcomic, or whatever you want to call it. It's kind of hit or miss, but some of the stuff is hilarious. Enjoyed this:

Take it easy, take it easy

The PostSecret event last night was incredible. Frank Warren was a phenomenal speaker. He explained how PostSecret started, showed us some secrets that had to be excluded from the new book, and then invited the audience to share some of their secrets. Some of the secrets were pretty intense: one guy told the room he'd be raped a few years ago. I almost cried like ten times while I listened. I'd highly recommend going to one of his events if you are ever presented with the chance.

And here's my all-time favorite postcard:

If you want to get cancer that's your business

There's a guy in my Sociology class (there's only three in a class of fourty - one of which I am fairly certain is gay) that I can only describe as looking like a serial killer. He has thick, black, old-school Buddy Holly eyeglasses, a Mad Men-esque hair cut, and retro clothing. Not that this is really what serial killers look like, but it's a mental image I can't seem to shake. Anyway, I find this kid really interesting. Even his name is nice: Lochlan. But yeah, that's basically how I have viewed this kid for 3 classes. Today he comes in and looks basically the same as any other day. Then, he takes off his sweater and is wearing a straight edge t-shirt and has full sleeve tattoos on his arms. This guy is such an enigma. I am very interested. My side-project for Sociology is to figure him out.

Get it right, get it tight

Walking home from downtown, listening to my iPod on shuffle, I (re)discovered two songs that I really like:
Strange Enough - N.A.S.A. feat. Karen O, Ol' Dirty Bastard, & Fatlip
Up, Up, & Away - Kid Cudi

I'm the sweetest bitch you'll ever meet

This photo marries two things I very much like - Michael Cera and Jersey Shore (Snooki and Sammi are pictured). Does anyone else think Cera looks a bit like the professor in Back to the Future with his "Pauly D hair"?Watch his time with the cast here.

I wanna be bad

I'm excited to attend the PostSecret event on Wednesday.

She thinks that happiness is a mat that sits at her doorway

Just bought this dress last night. Thinking I may wear it next weekend for the Kinesiology night at Pacifico. Also bought a new clutch. I do so enjoy shopping from the comforts of my living room.

Baby, it's 3 AM, you must be lonely

Carlye and I went to see Youth in Revolt (starring the wonderfully awkward Michael Cera) tonight. I'll be honest, the movie was a disappointment. There were some great lines, a great showing by Zach Galifianakis, and some greatly uncomfortable moments - but over all, I just didn't get in to the movie.

Came home and watched the newest Jersey Shore episode. Such a guilty pleasure.

Hitting the books tomorrow, and hard.

What was that?

I went to four different bars last night. How do I know this? Not because I remember going to all of them, but because I have two stamps and two bracelets. The roadmap to my Thursday night.

Turn me on with your electric feel

Obsession with Veronica Mars well established - perfected how to do popular season 3 hair style.

Run along, it's time for man talk

People, usually guys, are often shocked to find out that I have an affinity for Star Wars and other seemingly male-oriented interests. This extends to James Bond (especially in the Sean Connery era). Apparently this Friday, at the campus pub, there is a James Bond theme night. Probably going to have to attend.

On the topic of themes, my roommate Carlye and I are just biding our time until we can whip out our J-Woww and Snooki costumes for the bar. Who knew a little bronzer and a chip clip could go so far.

Like how to deal with some girl breaking your heart

Sat behind Ignatieff while he spoke to students, faculty, and alumni of Dalhousie. Pretty glamarous.

Got fitted for a dress to wear in the February fashion show. Sounds like an interesting pattern. I get to try it on on Friday.

Finished watching the third and final season of Veronica Mars tonight. What to do with all my free time?

Sunday, January 10, 2010

God keep our land glorious and free

Apparently Michael Ignatieff is speaking at Dalhousie tomorrow afternoon. How do I know this? My presence at the event has been requested. I'm not much of a pol, so why am I being summoned? I kid you not - I've been asked to sit behind Ignatieff and be a "good looking person" (their words, not mine) in the background for all of the photo ops. I guess they didn't want any ugly real Liberal supporters ruining the photos.

My dreams, they aren't as empty as my conscience used to be

If you've seen the movie Up In The Air with George Clooney, then you will surely know of the Backpack theory (referred to as What's In Your Backpack?). Basically, we go through our lives with a backpack on filled with family, friends, acquaintances, possessions, etc etc, and they weigh us down. Clooney's character suggests emptying the backpack (he actually says to burn it, but I think that may be extreme when we're talking about people). If you've seen the movie, then perhaps you learn the life lesson that you don't really want to empty, or burn, the backpack. I, on the other hand, have decided that emptying the backpack is good. Emptying also being extreme; I like to call it lessening the load. However, there's people and things I can't seem to throw out, so to speak. Kind of like when I go through my Facebook friends list. There are people I don't speak to, care about, or even bother to creep, but I can't seem to delete them from the list. Maybe that's why you're supposed to burn the backpack - no discrimination.

From sea to shining sea

Met with a photographer today to discuss his concept for a shoot. Turns out he wants to do some headshots inspired by a European magazine called Dazed. He also wants me to sport one of his designs in a fashion show in February. Not sure what I have gotten myself into, but it should be fun. Professional hair and make-up, yes please.

On a whim, bought a ticket for the PostSecret event coming up in a few weeks. Frank Warren will be here to give a talk. Pretty excited.

Went for martinis and appetizers with some of my roommates tonight at Victor's. I had a Blue Zen (which I liked) and an Anti-Freeze (which I did not like).

Apparently taking grainy webcam pictures of yourself can get you involved in modeling. Who knew? Built-in HP webcam, you are opening so many doors for me.

I wanna wake up where you are

Sh-sh-shake that ass

I had my first Sociology & Anthropology of the Body today. I don't know how I ended up a natural science student with an affinity for social science and the arts. I think I am really going to enjoy the class. The professor is awesome. She decided today that 8:30 is too early, so we're going to start class at 9 instead. We discussed the disembodied subject in sociology and how we are now moving toward an embodied subject. Basically, the mind and the body cannot be studied separately because each affects the other. Not overly groundbreaking from my perspective, but apparently this is new to sociology since the '90s.

And then we'll do it again

"No good friends, no bad friends; only people you want, need to be with."

Stephen King

I Gotta Feeling

My Human Sexuality class is awesome. In the hour and a half class that I had today, the professor said junk, cock, dick, pussy, vajayjay, cunt, and one-eyed monster in reference to boy/girl anatomy. We also watched music videos and discussed subtle/overt sexual content and watched a clip from Seinfeld. And he has promised to tell us how to more frequently achieve orgasm during sex. Best 600 bucks I ever spent on a class.

I have already dropped one of my classes: Physical Activity for People with Disabilities. The "professor" is a 23 year old Dal graduate (who graduated last year). He's friends with people in my class. Plus the course is totally not what I expected. We have to do a practicum (and I already have to do one for another class) and make up a game/sport that can be adapted for people with disabilities. I know it's lazy, but that's just more work than I want to do in my last semester. I decided to take a senior seminar on pain management in its place. Pretty excited.

So basically, my semester consists of:
-Human Sexuality
-Senior Seminar on Pain Management
-Sociology/Social Anthropology of the Body
-Social Psychology
-Case Studies in Kinesiology/Kinesiological Practicum

And, after switching those classes around, my schedule actually became even better. One class on Mondays from 3:30-5, earliest class on Tuesdays and Thursday at 11:30 (it's my practicum, so after a few weeks I don't even go), and still no classes on Fridays. Life is good.

Tonight I'm heading out with some of the PEI girls to watch the hockey game at Your Father's Moustache. I am seriously loving life at the moment.

All the girls ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhhh

I had the best night last night at Baba's with Kat, Jenn, and Morgan. Scratch never disappoints and I danced from 10:30 until the lights came on at 2.

And wild horses couldn't drag me away

I welcomed the year 2010 with sparklers, awkwardness, a kiss, and some cheap wine. For the first time in a long time, however, the awkwardness was not my own. I can't really say that I had a good time at the party. Although meeting Mitch's girlfriend was a highlight. What a nice young lady. Aside from that, 2010 entered with little bang. I am apprehensive about the year to come.
